In this quick, step by step, Adobe Illustrator tutorial, you will learn how to create the Android icon. This is a beginner tutorial, as the icon is simple, using only basic shapes. The tools we will be using are the shapes tools and the align and pathfinder pallet.
Step one: Select the ellipse tool and draw a slightly squished ellipse.
Step two: Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool and draw a tall rectangle overlapping the ellipse. Use the up and down arrows to adjust the radius of the corners until you reach the desired look.
Step 3: Select both the ellipse and the rounded rectangle by dragging the selection tool over both shapes. Use the align pallet to vertically align the two shapes down the center.
Step 4: Fill both shapes with the Android green color and remove the stroke. With both shapes selected, select the Pathfinder pallet and merge the two.
Step 5: Using the Rectangle tool, draw a long rectangle over the area that you want the gap between the head and body to be.
Step 6: Select both the body shape and the rectangle shape and click the Trim button in the Pathfinder pallet.
Step 7: Using the direct selection tool, delete the rectangle shape.
Step 8: Using the Rounded Rectangle Tool, draw one of the arms. While drawing the shape, use the up and down arrows to adjust the radius of the curves until you reach the desired look.
Step 9: Copy and paste the arm and place it on the other side of the body.
Step 10: Select both arms using the Selection Tool, and horizontally align them. Use cmd+g to group the arms together.
Step 11: Select all of the items and vertically align them. The arms must be grouped in order for this step to work correctly.
Step 12: Copy one of the arms twice to create the legs. Horizontally align the legs with each other and group them. Now select everything and use the Pathfinder pallet to vertically align all of the objects. For this step to work correctly, the arms need to be grouped, and the legs need to be grouped.
Step 13: Using the Ellipse Tool, hold shift and draw a perfect circle for the eye. Make it white.
Step 14: Copy and paste the eye so now you have two ellipses. Horizontally align them and group them. Now, select all shapes and vertically align everything again.
Step 15: Using the Rounded Rectangle Tool draw a tall, skinny rectangle shape. Use the up and down arrows to create the desired radius for the curve.
Step 16: Right click the shape, the hover Transform, then click Rotate.
Step 17: Change the angle to 30 and click OK.
Step 18: Place the new shape on the Android head.
Step 19: Duplicate the shape so you have two identical shapes.
Step 20: Right click the new shape and hover Transform, then click Reflect.
Step 21: Select Vertical and click OK.
Step 22: Horizontally align the two antenna shapes. Now group them.
Step 23: Select all shapes and vertically align.
Step 24: Select all shapes and click the Merge button in the Pathfinder pallet.
That's it! Now you have a cute little vector Android icon!
